Last week our diplomacy team had the honor of wrapping their tenure up with a visit to The North Atlantic Treaty Organization Headquarters, where it received a comprehensive lecture on NATO and Finland’s role in it from The Head of Political affairs of The Permanent Represenation of Finland to NATO, Turo Mattila.
His long career at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, for example as adviser to the Foreign Minister as well as to President Niinistö in writing the report on EU’s civilian and military preparedness for von der Leyen’s cabinet, sparked within us a deeper understanding regarding the multitude of layers the security of Europe is built upon.
We extend a big thank you to him, as well as the two other Foreign Ministry employees present, Counsellor Ville-Veikko Pitkänen and Policy Intern Otso Kaihilahti. We are also grateful to professor Wim Vandenbussche and our delegate Luukas Pitkänen for their help in organizing the visit.
