TRAININGS 2025-2026

This academic year, our training programme was led by board member Lara Butenaerts, who held sessions two to three times per week with a focus on public speaking, negotiation, and conference diplomacy. Her work centred on preparing our delegations for VVN MUN 2025, LIMUN 2026, and ParisMUN 2026.

Following the intake of ten new members ahead of LIMUN, Lara designed and delivered a dedicated training track for all VUBMUN delegates at the time. Together with faculty advisors Bassem Chakroun and Robbe Desmet, she ensured continuous support for delegates throughout the London conference. In Paris, Lara took on the role of faculty advisor once again, joined by Nena Mgbokwere and Zampia Pantzelioudaki. The three of them guided our delegation throughout ParisMUN, a conference at which our delegates went on to claim all five available awards.

Beyond conference preparation, Lara created space for our members to connect with two remarkable professionals from the world of diplomacy and European affairs. We were delighted to welcome Sarah Nelen to the VUB campus. Currently serving as Head of Cabinet for Planetary Resources, Universal Values and Environmental Security, Sarah offered our students a candid look into the inner workings of the European Commission, sharing her career path, the challenges she faced, and the lessons she drew from them. We also had the privilege of hearing from Karle de Volder, a distinguished VUBMUN alumna and currently Head of Chancery at the Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on a diplomatic mission in Washington D.C. Despite the time difference and a demanding schedule, she joined us virtually and spoke openly about her career and what life as a diplomat truly looks like, answering every question our delegates put to her.
